This is an introductory level criminology class. The course will include an overview of law enforcement and the job of a police officer. The class covers topics related to criminology, history of law and punishment, civil and criminal justice systems, law in our everyday lives, and legal ethics. This class looks at the ramifications of the laws passed and the effects they have on our everyday lives. Emphasis is placed on landmark court decisions and how those decisions shape our rights as citizens.

Classroom expectations:
The ALHS Positive Behavior Expectations are understood and will be enforced.
Students are expected to be Attentive, Leaders, Here, and Safe!
Building policies regarding tardies, hall passes, cell phone use, etc. will be enforced.
Grading and Evaluation:
Grades will be updated via the Pinnacle online grade book. This should be available to all students and parents for questions about current class progress. Missing work will be identified with the ‘Z’ label and counts as a zero towards your final grade.
30% of the grade can be based on practice assignments and tasks.
70% of the grade will be based on performance level assignments
Students must complete and pass all performance assignments and will be given time according to the grading guidelines.
Students who do not complete performance assessments on time will have five student contact days to turn in late work. If not turned in after five days the students will be assigned learning recovery.
Late work: Students will have reasonable opportunities for lesson practice tasks
Letter grades will be based solely on achievement of course content. Student attendance, engagement, improvement, attitude, collaboration, and other behaviors will be reported separately using the Council Bluffs Community Schools Employability Skills Rubric. (LINK HERE)
