The UK House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee “monitors the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and its associated bodies, including the BBC, on behalf of the House of Commons and the electorate”. It was famously involved in investigating the Murdoch media phone hacking scandal in the UK (see : http://www.parliament.uk/cmscom ).

Murdoch Media Empire and the phone hacking scandal (2012): “[Rupert Murdoch] did not take steps to become fully informed about phone hacking … turned a blind eye and exhibited wilful blindness to what was going on in his companies and publications… We conclude, therefore, that Rupert Murdoch is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of major international company."
