Dear Member,

  1 Our Functions: A review:

a)     Our last function: MAB’s NORTH EAST ZONE  (Ghatkopar, Powai, Thane & beyond)

MAB’s Zone-5 (NE Zone, covering Powai, Ghatkopar to Kalyan) get together was organized on Sunday, 17 th March 2019 at Hotel Lerida, Thane between 12.00 PM to 5.00 PM.  It was attended by 96 biradri members, including 36 from other Zones. Traditional welcome of all members was done with Gulal and beautiful Gajra was presented to ladies.

The function started with traditional Holi songs by Smt. Cuckoo of Koperkhairane, (alas ! she  left for her heavenly abode in September last),  Dr Kirti ( Andheri ), Smt Archana ( Ghatkopar ) and others , all the songs were greatly appreciated by all. The entire function was ably compered by Sh Chetan Mathur (Jogeshwari) who engaged every one with very interesting and exciting games in which all age group biradri members participated and were awarded prizes. There was beautiful dance performance by Mrs Nidhi Mathur ( Mulund ) , little Atika ( Thane )and others.

The following Academic Awards (cash, Rs. 1000 each) for session 2017-18 were  presented by MAB President Sh Mahesh C Mathur to the following:

i) ‘GANPAT SAHAI’ Award to  Kashyap, son of Sh Anil and Smt Richa, (Thane-W) for his brilliant achievement in obtaining 90% marks in ICSE Class X.

ii)  “GUNNO DEVI” Academic award to Karan,  son of Sh Ggagan and Smt Gitanjli (Khar-W) for his brilliant achievement in obtaining 95% marks in CBSE class XII

It may be nostalgically  mentioned that both these Awards are as sponsored several years back by ( most regretfully, now Late) Shri Sushil K. Mathur (Powai) who, in memory of his Late parents, had initiated these Awards for welfare and encouragement to our Biradri boys and girls.

Hot Veg and Non-Veg starters along with cold / hard drinks were served, followed by a delicious and sumptuous lunch liked by one and all. A round of Tambola marked the end of the function.

Our special thanks are due to the following members:

1) Smt Archna and Sh Manoj (Powai) for Holi Special Kanji and for sponsoring Hard drinks,

2) Smt Shalini and Sh Anil (Mulund) for Holi Special Gujias,

3) Smt Binnu and Sh Yogesh (Thane) for sponsoring gifts,

4) Smt Deepali and Sh Sharad (Thane) for sponsoring sweets,

5) Smt Shobha and Sh Kuldeep (Thane) for beautiful Holi decorative charts

(b) Our next function: Plans are underway to organize our next function in coming January/February. Detailed information, when finalized, will be conveyed to members by email, WhatsApp, etc.

2. New Managing Committee:

a) Shri Mahesh C. Mathur, our President, voluntarily stepped down from the post on 5th October, 2019 after a very long association with MAB.  It is recalled that Mahesh Sahib had been an active member of the Mumbai Mathur biridri even before the formal formation of MAB in year 1975.  He is the oldest surviving founder and still serving member of the Mathur Association, Bombay having served as its Treasurer from the beginning and its President since May, 2015 till October, 2019.  He has been kind enough to let the Association have its corporate address as c/o his own office since the inception of the MAB.  A feather in his cap is the establishment of the MAB Welfare Trust in year 2005 and its Registration as a Charitable Institution, all by his untiring efforts.

The Mumbai Mathur biradri in general and MAB in particular can never thank him enough for his valuable service to the community and the Association.

 b)  Consequent upon Shri Mahesh’s opting out, the MAB Managing Committee was reconstituted on 5th October, 2019 with Shri Ajit K. Mathur, (our Sr. Vice President and a Mg.Comm. member for the past about 40 years) unanimously nominated as  President. Designations of the members of the reconstituted Mg. Comm., are detailed at the opening of this Newsletter.

3. Reconstitution of MAB Zones:

   a)  As members are aware, MAB was so far having a total of seven geographical Zones of the metropolis city for administrative and communicative purposes. Out of these seven, membership in two Zones, viz. Zone-3 (Chembur-New Mumbai) and Zone-6 (NW Zone, Andheri to Borivli) had reached to about 150 and 200 respectively. As it was getting growingly difficult for one Zonal Committee to manage the work in each of these Zones, these two particular Zones have now been divided into two each, and as such we now have a total of 9 Zones instead of the earlier 7. The other five Zones, however remain same as before.

b)   Zonal Committee:     An Ad hoc Zonal Committee indicating the jurisdiction of each Zone with name and mob. No. of the respective Zonal Member incharge has been formed provisionally as per details given in Annexure-A attached.  This Committee has been formed to start with on Ad hoc basis so as to define the new Zones with names of their designated Mg. Comm. Member incharge. Each Zonal Committee will be augmented with Zonal members from members of the respective Zones to make the Committee fully functional.

We request our biradri ladies and gents, specially from the the younger generation,  who are interested to volunteer their services for  MAB’s activities to kindly contact the Zonal Incharge of their area (as indicated above) for induction in the Zonal Committees.

4. MAB DIRECTORY:

As our present (2012 Edn.) Directory has become quite old, needing a large number of corrections, deletions and updating, we are planning to publish a new, updated 2020 Edn.  Our Zonal Members have already started data collection work and will be contacting the biradri members for Directory updating work. It may be appreciated that this mammoth task cannot be accomplished solely by the Zonal Members alone, without help and cooperation from all other  members.

We therefore earnestly request our members to kindly go to our website (id given on top of this N/letter) and look for their name and other particulars in the Directory of their concerned Zone. If there is any change (postal address, email id, phone no., place of work, etc.) it may kindly be intimated promptly to the Zonal Member in charge on phone mentioned in para 3 above. This help will go a long way in our preparing and presenting an error free Directory.

 5. MAB Welfare Trust:

a) As members are aware, in May, 2005  MAB had established a Charitable Trust named as “MAB Welfare Trust|” with the main aim of providing financial assistance for medical purposes to our members in distress, educational purposes  to the deserved and needy and other charitable activities. It is funded by contributions from the public, our members and other well wishers. Being registered under the Charitable Public Trusts Act, its donors are entitled to Tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act., for which the Trust is authorized to issue necessary certificate.

         b)  We appeal to our members to generously contribute to this noble cause and also to try getting contributions from other well wishers, corporate houses, etc. For processing contributions, kindly contact our Treasurer, Shri Vishwa Nath Mathur (add: 1408, Astor Bldg., B-Wing, Dosti Acres, Wadala E, Mumbai – 400 081, R: 2415 6680 / Mob: 9821163526, email id: vishwanath.mathur@gmail.com ) or any member of the MAB Managing / Zonal Committee.

c)    We gratefully acknowledge receipt of Rs. 11,000 from Mrs. Manjula & Mr. Lalit K. Mathur (E-52 / Chembur) in celebration of the wedding of their son, Anuj with Kum. Swati held in Mumbai on 3rd December, 2017.

d)   In our last Newsletter dated 15th December we had reported a total, updated collection of Rs. 3,10,359 for the Welfare Trust Fund till then.  With the further receipt mentioned above, the total collection comes to an update of Rs.3,21,359  which need to be further augmented substantially to make our Trust a viable entity  to meet our objectives effectively.

‘We have first to give to the giver to enable the giver to give’. (an Urdu couplet, loosely translated)

e) Support for Medical emergency:  Members may recall that in April last Shri Devesh Lal (N-14/Vasai-W), one of our Life Members had to undergo heart surgery in emergency, and  the family appealed to the community for financial  help. MAB too, on their behalf, sent out a widely publicized appeal to its members, as also a parallel wide publicity by our Member, Shri Mathuresh Sherry on the international Mathur e-club on WhatsApp.  for generous contributions. As a result of both these publicities a total sum of Rs. 1,83,000  was raised  and  provided to the family in distress. MAB is thankful to the said contributors who responded spontaneously to its appeal.

A list of the said contributors with amounts contributed noted against each is attached at Annesure-B, to put on record MAB’s grateful gesture of acknowledgement and thanks to these contributors who had responded to the MAB’s appeal.

We understand that Kum. Kritika Sherry (E-134/Kharghar) had separately taken up the cause with ‘MILAP’ (a social help NGO) through which another sizable sum of about Rs. 1, 33,000 is said to have been raised by e- transfer to the account of Ms. Rachna Lal, a daughter of Shri Devesh Lal. Our sincere appreciation for Kritika’s efforts in getting this sizable financial help to the family in desperate need.

It must be mentioned that in addition to the above, many other contributions were received directly by the family or by the Hospital from other supporters in the community and elsewhere of which we do not have complete and authentic information but nevertheless the help from these contributors is highly appreciated as an example of our biradri’s solidarity.

The Devesh Lal family is highly grateful and obliged to one and all of the contributors for the timely assistance which, by God’s grace, helped saving Shri Lal’s precious life.

This instance once again highlights the importance and helpful use of the MAB Welfare Trust in Medical emergency cases in our biradri and thus of collection of generous contributions to it from all sources, including from our own biradri members.

c) Charity: In our last Newsletter dated 15th December, 2018 we had mentioned that as a mandatory Charity requirement, a donation of Rs. 24,500 was made in March, 2018 to Mahabir Medical Research Centre & Charitable Hospital at Khar (W) for purchase of a Laser Machine for the benefit of patients undergoing Physiotherapy treatment by a new technique.

Mumbai Mathurs can avail of this treatment at a concessional rate at this centre.

6. Life Membership:

Those of our members who have still not taken the Association’s Life membership (validity 15 years, thereafter renewable) are requested to kindly do so by paying a fee of Rs. 1500.  Intending members may kindly contact Shri Yogesh Mathur, our Gen. Secy., (add: 702, ‘Aphrodite-B”, Lodha Paradise, Thane (W)-400 601, Ph: 25333926 / Mob: 9819233256, email id: yogeshmathur5@hotmail.com) for processing their cases for Life Membership.

7. GENERAL:

A Grand Century:  Members will be pleasantly surprised and will joyously sing ‘Happy Birth day to you’ for Smt. Memala, respected mother of Comdr. O.J. Mathur (NW-69 / Andheri-W) who celebrated her 100th Birthday on 23rd June, 2019.  On behalf of the biradri as well as on its own behalf  MAB had duly conveyed warm felicitations and greetings to her, wishing her ‘many more returns of the day’, with our congratulatory letter to her headed by the well known greeting “Tum  Jiyo hazaaron  saal, saal  ke din hon  pachas  hazaar”
