                                                                        NEWSLETTER

Highlights:

-          Our Last function

-          Restructuring MAB Managing Committee

-          MAB Directory

Dear member,

    The Mumbai monsoon has come in its full mode bringing a welcome and much needed respite from the hot weather. Monsoon has its own pleasures and problems and like any other Mumbaikar, we all take it in its stride. We are sure those of us who had gone out during school holidays are back by now, resuming their normal daily routine, and perhaps, some enjoying Monsoon picnics etc. So, here we are with the MAB’s Newsletter for your reading pleasure.

a)      We had our last Annual function (a day picnic event) on Sunday, 16th   January, 2011 at the vast green and open ground of Naval Baug, Madh-Marve Road. The venue, weather and ambiance were just right to create an enjoyable mood for elders and youngsters alike. It started at about 10 a.m., with welcome tea, followed by sumptuous veg. & non-veg lunch around 2.30p.m, and finally closing in at around 5 p.m., with evening tea and snacks.

In between, the guests enjoyed meeting each other in a leisurely mood while savouring the delicious hot served veg. and non-veg snacks, chilled drinks (soft and not-so-soft), participating in outdoor games, an Antakshri .etc.

b)      The function was attended by 145 guests. With this nice, already  tried and largely appreciated  venue we were, however, expecting a better attendance, specially as now we have only one function in a year.  One reason for this rather low attendance, we are told now is the Marathon Race in Mumbai on the same day in which many of our members were participating or had gone for watching. We are sorry for missing those who could not join us.

c)      Our sincere thanks are due to the following members for their  generous contribution and help in the function, as given below:

i)        Shri Rajesh Narain & Mrs. Ratanmala (NW-102 / Kandivili-E) for providing 78 nos. 600 mL Beer cans,  (as actually needed)

ii)      Col. R. K Mathur (Retd) (NE-45/Powai) for a donation of Rs. 5000

iii)    Shri Chetan Mathur (NW-133A/Jogeshwari) for managing the floor show and organizing the games and entertainment programme.

iv)    Shri Sushil K. Mathur & Mrs. Renu (Powai) for their usual offer of providing free ice cream to all.  Ordering for it to the supplier was done as usual by us on their behalf but unfortunately for some unexpected reasons the ordered ice cream could not be received at the venue in time. Nevertheless, this almost two decades long unbroken, continued year after year gesture of goodwill of theirs is gratefully acknowledged, with our sincere apologies to them for the mishap this time.

d)      Membership:

We welcome Sh Rohit Mathur / Mrs. Abha (NW-116 / Kandivili-E) who took Life Membership on payment of Rs. 1000.

Annual Membership for year 2010-11 (Rs. 100 each) was thankfully received from the following members:

Some corrections in our last Newsletter dated 15-12-2010:

i)        Para-5: Shri Rajiv Mathur / Mrs. Manisha, (W-39/ Bandra-E) was shown in the list of payers of Annual Membership while he had taken Life Membership by paying Rs. 1000. Necessary correction has been made in our record and they have since been registered as Life Members.

ii)      Para 4-viii: In the list of donations for medical emergency expenses for a member, the donor’s name (Rs. 1000) may please be read as Mrs. Sudha Mathur (c/o Shri Mathuresh Sherry) of Powai instead of Mrs. Beena Mathur wrongly mentioned.

We are sorry for the above two errors in the last Newsletter:

a)      We feel sorry to announce the resignation (on health grounds) from MAB’s Managing Committee by S/Shri Suresh C. Mathur, (Khar-W) our Vice-President and Shri S.D. Mathur, (Chembur), our Joint Secretary.

We will be badly missing Shri Suresh who has been so active, benevolent and dedicated to MAB during his long stint with the Association. We express our great appreciation for his valuable guidance and service he rendered to the Association all through.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation for Shri S.D. Mathur for his active participation in MAB’s activities; especially as a member of its Catering committee and also for organizing in a big way the Zonal functions in his Zone.

We wish a healthy and long life to both Shri Suresh Mathur & Shri S.D. Mathur and hope that they will continue their interest and extending their helping hand in the Association’s activities.

b)      Our Managing Committee has consequently been restructured as required, with the inclusion of two new members in place of the two outgoing ones. The profile of the new Managing committee is attached at Annexure – 1

c)      A revisited list of our Zonal Committee members is also attached at Annexure-2 for your information and interaction with its members of your Zone.

a)      The draft of the MAB Directory-2010 Edn, was fully completed by December, 2010, ready for print. As you are aware, the printing cost is usually met with from advertisements from well wishers, but unfortunately despite of our best efforts sufficient number of ads to meet the printing cost could not be collected by then. With continued efforts by our Mg. Comm. and Zonal Comm. members more ads started coming in gradually and it is only now that we are in a position to meet the printing expenses. We have now given clearance to the printer to go ahead with printing work and expect the Directory to be ready by around October this year for supply to members.

It may be mentioned here that the Directory under print is corrected upto December-2010. However, names of new members as also changes in member’s address, etc., received by us upto 30th June, 2011 have been incorporated in it.

The new Directory, updated to June, 2011 (as it will appear in the printed version) has been uploaded on our website http://sites.google.com/site/bombaymathurs and can be viewed by members.

b)      An Important message: Modalities of delivery of the Directory to members are being worked out, but most likely it may have to be sent at their listed address through courier. We are afraid that for those whose address has changed but not informed to us, these will come back to us undelivered. To avoid this as much as possible, members are requested to please immediately view their name, address etc., as listed in the Directory on the website and inform us at the earliest of an address change, if any. We will be grateful if you kindly do the same for members known to you who do not have access to the internet.

For this, on opening the website first please click on “Alphabetical Listing”, locate your name and note down your Zonal No. (eg E-54, NW-78, NE-34, etc.). (Your Zonal no. is also marked on the address sticker on your newsletter). Thereafter, click on “Our Zones”, and then on your particular Zone, in that get your name, address etc., against your Zonal no. noted by you earlier.  If there is any change in the address as shown on the website please inform as early as possible to our Directory cell (Shamsher Barellia, Ph: 2446 7212 / Mob: 98204 27290 or em id: barellia@yahoo.com) with cc to us at bombaymathurs@gmail.com. This will at least ensure proper delivery of Directory at your corrected address and also save unnecessary wastage of our couriering expenses.

If however, you received our last Newsletter dated 15-12-2011, and have not changed your address since then, we will presume that your address is correct and in that case you need not re-confirm your address to us.

c)      Some interesting statistics from the new MAB Directory under print:

i)        Total number of listed Mumbai Mathur households: 546

Their Zonal locations are as follows:

From the above it is seen that about 30% of Mumbai Mathurs live in the Western Suburbs (Bandra to Borivili) and another about 22% in Eastern Zone (Chembur & New Mumbai), the two Zones jointly containing about 52% of Mumbai Mathurs.

ii)      Total  number of members (including those in joint families) is 706

iii)    Total Number of our External Life members: 69, of whom we have contact addresses only for 23.

iv)    Number of listed Mumbai Mathurs alphabetically arranged:

A = 137,    B = 21,    C = 7,      D = 28,    E = 1,    G = 19,   H = 9,    I = 4,   J = 11

K = 30,      L = 1,      M = 36,   N = 31,    O = 3,    P = 50,   R = 90,   S = 144,

T = 4,        U = 9,      V = 55,    Y = 16.

There is none with name starting with F, Q, W and X.  It seems Mathurs have a preference for “S”, “A” and “R” to start their names, not many choosing “L”, “I” and “O”.

MAB Welfare Trust

                                      We make a living by what we get

                                                We make a life by what we give

i)        The formation of the MAB Welfare Trust and its Registration under the Charitable Public Trusts Act, along with our having obtained permission for issue of Certificate under Section 80G of I. Tax Act (entitling a donor to claim tax relief) have already been announced in detail in our previous Newsletters. It may be recalled that the main objective of the Trust is to provide emergency medical relief to members in distress, besides other public activities in the field of education, welfare of Senior citizens, etc.

We wish to bring to member’s kind notice that it was in response to a long pressing demand by them for creation of a Trust for the benefit of the community at large that MAB had put in lot of efforts in the formation and Registration of the Welfare Trust. A beginning has been made but much greater efforts are now required by one and all to develop the Trust to a viable financial level so that it is of some real, meaningful service to the needy.

On its own part the Trust has been regularly performing charity activities. A few years back it had organized a free Eye Camp at a School at Bhayander where the students got their eyes tested and the poor amongst them who needed glasses were provided with free spectacles. In the last two years a contribution of Rs. 25,000 to the Cancer Society as aid for child cancer patients, and another one of Rs. 15,000 to a deserving Mumbai Mathur student for educational purposes were provided.. These have already been reported in our last two Newsletters dated 30-3-2010 and 15-12-2010 respectively. Later, in August, 2010 another contribution of Rs. 25,000 was provided to an institute of destitute children for education of the inmates therein.

However, it may please be appreciated that members of the MAB Management alone cannot carry on the Fund Collection drive all by themselves, without active support and involvement from our Biradri members. Members are, therefore requested to please make wholehearted efforts to get as many contributions as possible, not only from our Biradri but also from other sources and well-wishers to develop the Corpus Fund of the Trust to a viable level.

Within our Biradri, our first request is to our members who are in their own business / profession (or those who have resourceful approach to other potential doners) on whom we depend for active support. Charity begins at home - an old saying

ii)      The total Fund collection for the Trust stands at Rs. 244358 only, till date.

a)      The “GUNNO DEVI” award (Rs. 500 cash, sponsored by Shri Sushil K. Mathur of Powai) for year 2009-2010 was awarded to Kum. PARIDHI, (d/o Smt. Neena & Shri M. K. Mathur, Anushaktinagar) for brilliant success in SSC Exam of CBSE held in March, 2010, having obtained A-1 in four and A-2 in one out of total 5 subjects with a CSRA of 9.8

3)      Applications for the awards for the year 2010-11 , complete with attested photocopies of the marks sheet should reach the MAB office, (with a copy to our Gen. Secretary, Shri S. Barellia), latest by 30th September, 2011.
