Highlights:

*MAB’s Zonal functions

*MAB Directory & Website

Dear Member,

1. Our functions:

It has already been brought to member’s kind notice (vide our last Newsletter dated 25th, February, 2013) that instead of MAB’s one central Annual Function as in the past, the Zonal functions organized by the respective Zonal Committees (with some financial assistance from the MAB and cooperation by its Managing Committee members and members from other Zones.) will be taken as MAB functions.

It will be appreciated that this provides a good opportunity for closer integration of families from other Zones with those in the host Zone, besides expectation of a larger participation of guests from the host Zone itself. Also, those who earlier used to miss our central function as also those who may now happen to miss a function in their own Zone can attend one in another Zone, thus maintaining their link with the Biradri. All these functions, as mentioned above, will be taken as de-centralized MAB functions.

Notices for these functions are normally issued via email or by word of mouth by the host Zone to all its members, as also to as many of other Zones as possible. On its part, MAB also forwards these notices via email to as many as possible with a request to attend the function and further convey the information by word of mouth to as many as possible.

However, a Central function can always be held on public demand or as and when necessity, like for fund collection for welfare and charity activities etc.

2. Our Zonal functions:

a) Following Zonal functions held in the recent past have already been reported with details in our last Newsletter:

1. Zone-1 (Colaba, Churchgate, Malabar Hill) and Zone-2 (Worli, Pedder Road, Mahim) organized jointly an evening get together on Saturday, 10th March, 2012 at Hotel Sea Plaza, Colaba, attended by 56 guests.

2 Zone-7 (North Zone, Dahisar to Mira Road) organized their function (a day picnic) on Sunday, 28th October, 2012 at Royal Hill Resort, Vasai, attended by about 150 guests.

3 Zone-3 (East Zone, Sion, Chembur, New Mumbai, Panvel and beyond) had their Diwali Milan function at Raheja Complex, Vashi in the evening of Saturday, 17th November, 2012, attended by 126 guests.

4. Zone-5 (North-East Zone, Ghatkopar to Thane, Kalyan & beyond) had their day picnic on Sunday, 25th November,2012 at Hotel Satkar Residency, Thane, attended by 96 guests.

5 Zone-6 (North-West Zone, Bandra to Borivli) at Hotel Host Inn, Andheri ( E ) as “Mathur Family Fellowship Programme” on Sunday, 13th January, 2013, attended by about 150 guests.

Apart from the above, the Zone had organized another well attended Cultural Event (a day program) on 28-4-2013 at Mysore Hall, Matunga, followed by sumptuous high tea with packed snacks.

b) Next Zonal functions are now being planned to be held as follows:

1. Zone-5 (North East Zone): December, 2013:

Members from all Zones, specially from the above mentioned ones seeking more information or desirous of taking part in these functions may kindly contact the respective Organizers listed above.

Other Zones (West Zone- 4/ East Zone -3, and North West Zone-6) are likely to frame their plans for holding their respective Zonal functions which will be announced in due course.

4. Our Directory Distribution & Website:

a) We are happy to state that printing of our new Directory has been completed and they are now ready for distribution to members. Our Joint Secretary, Shri Yogesh Mathur and Smt.Binnu (Thane) have undertaken the arduous task of packing, address labeling and dispatching the Directories to all MAB members.. However, it may be stated that in the recent past many members have changed their addresses and /or phone numbers without any intimation to us. To avoid return back of undelivered books from such wrong addresses and consequent wasteful expenditure, addresses of all listed members have been painstakingly verified individually on their listed phones by our Zonal Committees. For the time being, therefore, the Directories are being dispatched only to those whose addresses have thus been confirmed.

The distribution process (most likely by Courier or Speed Post to member’s verified addresses) has been started, likely to be completed by December first week. Those who, despite repeated attempts could not be contacted on phone for address verification are being excluded from the present distribution. If, therefore you do not get your copy of the Directory by say, 20th December, please contact Shri S.B. Barellia (ph.2446 7212 / Mob: 9820427290) em: barellia@gmail.com along with completed Membership form (if not furnished already) to get your request for Directory enlisted for further action.

b) Our Directory is also available on our website (http:// sites.google.com/site/bombaymathurs) which is kept updated periodically as per intimation received from members or other sources time to time. Currently it is updated till November, 2013.

5. MAB Welfare Trust:

Since the issue of last Newsletter in February last, there have not been any contributions to the Welfare Trust and the total collection for the Trust till date stands as Rs.2,51,359 only.

6. GENERAL

a) Congrats: Our heartiest congratulations to Shri J.S. Saharia and Smt. Sunita Saharia, (Churchgate, S/9) for his recent elevation to the prestigious post of Chief Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra.

Saharia Sahib ! Mumbai Mathur Biradri is proud of you and wishes you all the best in your new assignment.

b) Life Membership:

We welcome the following who have taken MAB’s Life Membership by paying Rs.1000 each:

c) In view of overall increase in expenditure in conducting our functions and Secretarial work (issue of Newsletters, etc.) we are constrained to revise our Membership fee w.e.f. 1st January, 2014 as follows:

i) Life Membership: Rs. 1,500 from Rs. 1000

ii) Annual Membership: Rs. 150 from Rs. 100

d) Sponsorship:

Managing Committee thankfully acknowledges receipt of the following special contributions for the MAB Directory publication and couriering process:

f) Membership Forms: Members who have still not filled and furnished their MAB Membership form are requested to kindly do so at their earliest so that the Data-base job be undertaken without further delay. Forms can be downloaded from our website or obtained from any of our Managing Comm., or Zonal Comm.,member.

d)As already announced, a new Mandha, donated by Smt. Anuradha & Capt. Deepak Lal of Powai for use by Mumbai Mathurs is kept at the residence of Smt. Prabha Mathur at Andheri-E (Ph: 2832 4795 / Mob: 9820194007, and can be availed of by prior appointment with her.

6. Academic Awards:

Following Academic awards sponsored through MAB are available for Mumbai based Mathur boys/girls

(a) GUNNO DEVI AWARD

Rs. 500 for the highest marks obtained in SSC Exam

(b) GANPAT SAHAI AWARD

Rs. 500 for the highest marks obtained in HSC Exam

(c)MADHO LAL AWARD

Rs. 1500 for a boy and / or girl securing admission in MBBS course in a recognized Medical College anywhere in India

NOTES:

1)For item under (a &b) above, minimum qualifying total marks are 80% or equivalent grading.

2)Applicant’s parents (other than Life members) should have paid their annual Membership for the concerned Academic Year as well as for the year of application.

3)Applications for the awards for the year 2010-11 , complete with attested photocopies of the marks sheet should reach the MAB office, (with a copy to our Gen. Secretary, Shri S. Barellia), latest by 30th December, 2013.

Applications received later may not be considered.

12. Smt. Saroj Bahadur, (C- 28 / Worli) wife of Late Shri Shiv Raj Bahadur (one of our past Presidents) at Mumbai on 4-11-2013. It is recalled that she, along with her late husband was a very keen participant in MAB activities. She will also be remembered for authoring the book “Mathur gharanon ki Reeti Rivaj” which serves as a guidance for many Mathur marriages in India and abroad.
