Makes 4 loaves
Ingredients
4 C. boiling water
2 C. instant oatmeal
1 C. whole wheat flour
1/2 C. brown sugar
2 T. salt
4 T butter
2 pkg. dry yeast
1 C. warm water
10 C all-purpose or bread flour (approx.)
Directions
Mix the oatmeal, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, salt and butter with the boiling water in a large bowl.
Then allow the mixture to cool until it is lukewarm.
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and add it to the cooled batter. Add enough white flour to make an elastic dough. Place it in a bowl and let it rise before punching it down and letting it rise again until double in size. Shape the dough into 4 loaves, and let them rise again until they are about double.
I like to brush the risen unbaked loaves with egg wash (1 egg + 1 T. water) and then sprinkle whole oats on top!
Bake them at 350 for 30 minutes or longer until done.
