A Biblical Timeline Chart Gives A Graphical Way To Help Teach Biblical Events And Characters And Realities

In our Bible study some years ago, a woman who had been a Christian and been involved in the Church for over 15 years, asserted that,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they weren't referring to the pre-Moses law) I wonder how many Christians will really pick up the inaccuracy in this claim. Moses existed some 500 years after Abraham and so it is an impossibility. I have since made up a Biblical history timeline and shown more visually the dating of individuals and occasions.

Some time ago, I was preaching on the death, life, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been a minister for forty years, came up and reproved me vigorously over some interesting points I made and he noted 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I quietly asked him if I had been teaching anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he replied"No". I continued on to spell out that in the case of that particular verse, it was not referring to exploring Scripture but to the false teachings and school of thought of Gnosticism, but he wouldn't accept it. Let me ask, how can a forty year minister & worker in the Gospel, not understand and know about something that possibly 1/2 the books of the New Testament relate to?

How could he study and preach the Bible clearly without knowing about something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be in a position to understand their Bible effectively, if they're not told?

Let's us as instructors and preachers stitch together the fragments of God's Word and God's plan into a seamless tapestry that our people can draw on for the remainder of life, helping them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.

It's not hard to do, and it's not boring if we're ready to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can use a Bible Timeline as well.
