Preaching Scripture Effectively Using A Biblical Timeline Chart

Alas, a numerous preachers and Bible teachers in our churches go on and preach flimsy, superficial, shallow, light weight sermons and their Church members hardly grow in Bible knowledge. Preachers love to give us'moral essays' and'warming affirmations' because supposedly, if we love our people this is what we'll do. Unfortunate it seems, if God's men and women are falling through the cracks'for a lack of knowledge' so long as we are nice and loving to all. In reality, the more relevant we become to our world, the less relevant we are to our world.

Some time ago, I was preaching on the burial, life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, and a retired pastor and strong preacher of the Gospel, who had been a minister for 40 years, came up and reproved me smartly over some fascinating points I made and he remarked 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was teaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he answered"No". I continued to explain that in the case of that particular verse, it wasn't speaking to exploring Scripture but to the false teaching and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he would not have it. So, how can a 40 year minister & laborer in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament discuss?

How can he study and teach the Bible fully without being familiar with something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to understand their Bible effectively, if they're not told?

Let's us as teachers and preachers stitch together the aspects of God's Word and God's plan into a logical whole that our people can draw on for the rest of their lives, helping them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and ways to better translate the Bible to model our lives by.

It's not difficult to do, and it is not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of effort prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can employ a Bible Timeline too.
