A Biblical History Timeline Gives A Creative Approach To Aid And Help Teach Biblical Events And Characters And Facts

Alas, a large number of preachers and Bible teachers in our churches go on and preach light weight, flimsy, superficial, shallow sermons and their congregation hardly grow in biblical knowledge. Preachers love to give us'moral essays' and'warming affirmations' because supposedly, if we really love our people this is what we will do. Too bad it seems, if God's men and women are falling through the cracks'for an absence of knowledge' so long as we are nice and loving to all. Truly, the more relevant we become to this world, the less relevant we are to this world.

Some years ago, I was teaching on the burial, death, life and resurrection of Jesus, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Gospel, who had been in the ministry for 40 years, came up and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I had been saying anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he answered"No". I continued to spell out that in the case of that particular Scripture, it wasn't referring to exploring Scripture but to the false teachings and school of thought of Gnosticism, but he wouldn't accept it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year preacher & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament discuss?

How can he understand and teach the Bible in fullness without being aware of something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to understand these things and be able to understand their Bible properly, if they are not told?

Let's us as instructors and preachers stitch together the aspects of God's Word and His plan into a logical whole that our people are able to draw on for the rest of their lives, to help them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to order our lives by.

It is not hard to do, and it is not boring if we are ready to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can employ a Bible Timeline as well.
