I felt that this presentation was important because of the fact that in Nevada there is such a high ELL population. Not all ELL students are Spanish-speakers, and those minority groups are often overlooked. It was my goal to emphasize the drastic growth our community has shown, as well as divulge to the other student teachers what the policy of the Clark County School District is in regards to managing the education of the ELL students. I felt it was also important to give information to anyone who may be interested in specializing in ELL education by obtaining a TESL or Bilingual endorsement. If the student teacher were proficient in a specific language, they have a much better chance of finding a position at a school and getting a head-start on their profession. Utilizing my A.S.W., I listed many of the proven and highly effective strategies to teaching ELL students. I have used all of these in my own teaching.
