Practicum Experience
The very first school I did my practicum observation was at Fay Galloway Elementary in Henderson, Nevada. This school gave me my first taste at classroom challenges as I encountered students of many different intellectual levels. At this school, all students are included in the classroom regardless of ability, and I observed as my mentor teacher would struggle daily to maintain consistency. This became a great learning experience for me as I would come to appreciate the teaching strategies, (particularly the Lemov strategies) being taught to me at UNLV.
Welcome to my page! I am Jennifer, and I graduated May 12, 2012 with a Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas (Summa Cum Laude). This site is dedicated to my journey becoming an elementary teacher, showcasing a few of the projects that I have done as well as lessons I have taught over the last few semesters.

I would like to dedicate my site to my husband Victor and my entire family, my parents, siblings and my children. Without their support and love I would not have been able to do this. I have been through very difficult moments and they are tremendously appreciated more than they will ever know.
My second semester of Practicum and student teaching were both done at John R. Hummel Elementary in Las Vegas. This school was a world of difference from the previous school. The school climate, the layout, the staff, everything was the complete opposite of Galloway. The mentor teacher I had been assigned to has almost 20 years of teaching experience, and it showed. The principal, vice principal, and entire staff was welcoming from the day I stepped foot in the door.
Being at Hummel Elementary has been an amazing experience! I have participated in many school events, had conferences with parents, utilized a multitude of teaching strategies and co-teaching models, joined in on grade level meetings, attended teacher workshops and observed R.T.I. and I.E.P. meetings. All of these have contributed a wealth of knowledge to my education of which I find invaluable.
