Welcome,
How long is a long time? What makes humans, human?
What does it take to become a civilization?
What contributions did early people make on human history, and our modern lives?
Why do we study history? '
How did we get here, the planets, earth, people and everything else?
These are just a few of the questions we will try to answer during this course.
As you study history we will focus not on the minor details, although we need details to tell the story, we are more interested in analyzing the interactions of events, and the consequences of those events on people, places and society. This course may be different than other courses that you have taken in previous years. It is very different than math, not just because you aren't solving equations, but because in history we aren't searching for one right answer, we are analyzing facts and information to draw and support conclusions. The focus of world history is to create critical thinkers, people who question what happened in the past, what is happening now, and what will this mean for the future. My hope is that when you leave this class that you will remember some significant events of history, but more importantly I want to help you develop your ability to use information to support your ideas and beliefs.
History and our understanding of it is changing daily. We are expanding our knowledge of events everyday as new discoveries are being made throughout the world. As students of history it is our task to examine these events and do our best to make connections to our modern lives. We will take this journey together. We will struggle and succeed together. You are not alone in this quest for understanding. You will find it difficult at times, but remember you are capable of accomplishing each and every task. Ask questions, share your understanding, and seek help when necessary.
