7th Grade Computer Technology
This one-trimester class meets daily and starts off by re-introducing students to keyboarding, using proper posture and hand position without looking at the keyboard (often referred to as “touch typing.”) This class delves into Google Documents, Presentations, Sheets, Drawing, Add-ons, as well as, online safety and moral and ethical computing, dealing with copyright and creative commons. Included in this is a section on online research and paper-writing and a larger portion dedicated to presentations. PowerPoint is used in depth, but other online presentation tools are explored as well. Students are expected to create informative, socially responsible presentations using embedded audio, video and more. Students will also work with some forms of coding, using online sites created especially for middle school students. General computing knowledge is imparted, as not all students will have had Computer Technology class in 6th Grade. As with all student online participation, safety is explored and reinforced at all times.
