Continuous Serve Receive

• 3 passers and target, wait line, servers

• Passers move through line left to right, right passer goes to target, target to serve line, servers to wait line.

• Rotate after every serve. Everyone stays if missed serve and server goes back to serving line after doing a move to improve.

Pass & Fill (3 passers and target after 1 person passes another player replaces from behind and person who passed will go to target)

Can do the following drills in this format:

•     +25 or +50 (or whatever score you want them to pass to)

  • Rate each pass and have a manager count the amount of points earned. +3 for perfect pass, +2 for a pass where a setter would have 2 options to set, +1 for one option or 0 for shanked pass. -1 for serve that hits floor or an overpass. 

  • Compete against other court

  • Servers vs passers – target must catch

  • If target misses or ball is shanked by passer, servers get 1 point

  • If aced or ball falls, servers get 2 pts

  • Passers get points of what they passed. Target must catch pass.

  • If good pass, passers get 1 pt. – first to specified # of points wins

• 7 before 3 – 3 aces before 7 perfect passes

• 3, 2, 1, 0 –(GREAT CONDITIONING DRILL)

  •  Coach is the target, group of passers (about 6)

  • Pass & coach evaluates each pass & gives number to individual.

  • If passer passes a 3 – there is no penalty for her.

  • If passes – 2 does 5 push ups (for example).

  • If passes 1 – does 5 push ups AND 5 tuck jumps (for example).

  • If passes 0 – does 5 push ups, 5  squat thrusts & sprints to the farthest wall & back.

  • Servers serve a specific number and then sides switch.

• Bounce between legs

  • Love doing this with continuous serve receive drills.

  • Must get feet to ball and ball bounce between them.

  • Emphasize staying in posture.

Rolling Chair Passing

• Emphasize dropping the shoulder to pass the high ball. Start with tossing to either side and progress to passing a controlled serve.

Drill #1: Harass The Passer

• • Sometimes dealing with outside distraction can cause a player to foul up on a play.

  • fWhat you need - You can have two or three servers on the other side of the net and a target player in the middle. You will also have two passers splitting the court down the vertical middle. Each of these passers will have a harasser.

  • How this drill works - The servers will serve the ball and the passers need to execute a good pass. It sounds quite simple on the surface, but there is a little bit of a twist to this drill.  Each passer has the harasser in their back pocket. This person is to yell, scream, stomp, and feint the passer - but never to touch them. They are trying to break the concentration of the passer as they try to get the ball to the target players.

• Result - Focus and awareness are increased with this drill.
