Hand-crafted Original Needle Felted Dogs and Pets by Cindy Walker
Needle Felted Pet Portraits and Animals
I began needle felting in 2005 and I am completely self taught. I saw a few items at a local Appalachian Folk Festival and then did some research on the net and found some wool and went to work. My first project was my own Jack Russell Terrier dog "Imp" who is such a clown sometimes that she is always my inspiration to make more dogs. I have since made many little dogs of many breeds and some horses, bears and a few other things - some serious and some humorous.
One of my first horses - an Appaloosa Indian pony - went to a museum out in Wyoming and my needle felting work was recently featured in a great article written by Christine Verstraete in the August issue of Dolls House and Miniature Scene Magazine. You can contact the editor for information on how to order a copy online.
I can needle felt sheep, goats, horses, mice, pigs, dogs or just about any other animals by hand from clean wool roving and I am always open to suggestions so if you want to see a specific breed of dog, horse or other animal that I don't have listed for sale anywhere just send me a note and I'll see if I can work it in and will give you a head's up when it is ready.
I can also make a portrait of your pet from your own photos
and I can even work in some of your pet's hair if you want me to, as a lasting memento.
I have recently started feeding a few of the local possums. They were coming up onto my deck and getting into my recycling bin every night and making a mess because they are hungry and there are a lot of new neighbors out here in the woods who have cut down a lot of trees and cleared a lot of land to build big houses near me.
Possums are amazing creatures and will eat as many as 5000 ticks in a week. They also eat spiders and poisonous snakes, so I figure I'll help them get through the Winter until all the bugs and crawlies are back outside in the Spring for them to nosh on.
I decided the wildlife could use a little bit of help and started putting out some cat food and table scraps for the possums every night, but possums can eat a lot more than I expected, so to keep them fat and sassy ( I think there are 3 of them right now ) I have started making Possum Art to pay for their food and some bedding for a possum house I made in case they need to take a nap in a safe place away from the neighbor's dogs.
You can help by:
buying some of my Possum Art - So far I have made needlefelted possums, possum paintings and possum jewelry - and more to come!
sending a donation to me directly through pay-pal to my email as a 'gift' (no fees that way)
buy me a 'coffee' at www.ko-fi.com/ghosthorsestudios (paypal does charge a fee to get the money from them)
Even a small donation will help keep their little possum bellies full and fat over the Winter and I'll apply anything extra to feeding the deer that frequent my yard or the birds that pass by on their migrations.
Every little bit helps!
