Bamford dresses two wells on the Village Green each year. The main dressing is created by a team of helpers and is open to everyone to come and join in. We encourage all our visitors, young and old, experienced and newcomers, to contribute their part towards this wonderful Derbyshire tradition. The smaller dressing is created by the Pre-school and is always beautiful and bright.
We plan the Well Dressing from early in the year but the actual making begins on the second Monday in July each year. On Monday, the frames are filled with wet clay and levelled, and the picture is pricked into the clay. From Tuesday and Wednesday we start to add the dried materials and Thursday and Friday are when the beautiful petals are added to complete the work.
We advertise our calendar in Bamford News and the actual week of Well Dressing is advertised on the noticeboards around the village. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.
On the Saturday the dressings are put in place on The Green and a blessing service is held.
