Bamford Carnival was started in the 1950s, traditionally held in the 3rd week in July, and was run as an annual event for all villagers to enjoy. Bamford Carnival brings the village together and is a great opportunity for new and old residents to meet. With events ranging from the Well Dressing, a Teddy Bears' Picnic for pre-school and Lego building to the Old Folks' Treasure Hunt. The Carnival is a great way of making new friends.
Carnival Committee
The Carnival Committee meets quarterly at the Anglers Rest pub in Bamford on a Sunday, usually at 6pm. It is a friendly, welcoming group, and we are always looking for new committee members to bring new ideas to the Carnival. The Carnival is a major part of Bamford’s history and we must carry it on. The Committee are always appealing for volunteers to help with events. There are a number of ways you can help. We appreciate everyone’s time is precious, but please even if you can give just a few hours once a year or would like to be involved on a regular basis do get in touch; any support will be greatly appreciated. We are currently in need of volunteers for a number of roles from Social Media and Marketing to erect bunting in the village .
Carnival Donations
Any proceeds raised from Bamford Carnival are used to support local village projects. The Carnival Committee is delighted to have donated £2,500 to the Bamford Lawn Tennis Club - who asked the Committee for help to build a Practice Tennis Return Wall and provide opportunities for tennis for the junior members of the community. The wall has been completed and is being well used by adults and children, as you can see below.
Paul Dickinson, Coach and Bamford Tennis Club committee member said “Thanks to all involved. It is important to provide opportunities for young people to get active in sports, as it helps shape their attitude to fitness for the future. Tennis is a fantastic sport for long term health and wellbeing. Thanks to the Carnival Committee for their kind donation .It will be great to have more children hitting tennis balls and being involved in sport.”
Tristan Britland, who approached the Committee for the donation said “We have had some good feedback about it so far, and I’ve got quite a few kids together now for a weekly hitting wall session“. Bamford Primary School also hold sessions at the club.
