The Association was formed in 1943 and is a registered charity no 501880.
We hold the main Sheep Dog Trials on the Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground every Spring Bank Holiday Monday (last Monday in May) from approximately 7.30am to 6pm.
This historic, traditional event is always a brilliant day and offers a great atmosphere for all the family. It is amazing to watch the dogs and handlers at work and watch the teamwork between man and dog that has been built up over years of training. These are skills that have been passed over the generations of sheep farmers over many years.
As well as the trials you can watch a demonstration of hand sheep shearing, weather permitting, as well as a competition for the best conditioned sheepdog.
There are several side stalls selling cakes, plants, food, drink and ice creams and the newly refurbished playground is available for the entertainment of younger children.
For those who are feeling energetic enough, there is a 4.5 mile fell race at 1pm which is open to all competitors over 18 and always very popular. So why not join us for a fun family day out?
All profits are split between various local charities each year.
The Committee and Members would like to thank all our visitors, supporters and helpers, making this a memorable event in Bamford each year.
If you would like to help or have a stall at the trials please contact the Secretary.
We have an annual dinner each year which is held at Sickleholme Golf Club. If you would like to attend this event please again contact our Secretary.
The trials started out as a comfort fund for the war time and still raises money for Bamford. In 1943 it raised £56 12s 0d.
New Committee members and Society members always needed.
