Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single product system." (Bill Mollison)
Gardening is often called the only living art form. Like any form of art, designing a garden is subjective.
But this art must be supported by technical skills and passion.
The bases of a beautiful Bali landscape are often the more neglected points as soil preparation, drainage and suitable planting selection.
Soil condition is really important to realize a gorgeous Balinese style garden, here in many projects soil is not natural because soil level has been raised and usually construction wastes and rubbish are not been removed.
Also some kind of natural soil as rice fields or former intensive fruit trees plantation are not suitable for many plants.
Rain management and drains are also critical for your Bali landscape beauty. During the raining season we can have up to 20 mm/h of rain.
Soil characteristics, sun exposure and water availability must be taken in consideration during the Balinese garden design for the plant selection.
Usually drawings for a Balinese landscape involve plants selection, creation of focal points, hardscaping as steps, statues, raised beds and water features.
I have my own nursery where I grow most of the more unusual tropical plants suitable for Bali landscape. These plants are solely available to my clients.
