Graduation FAQs

1) How many people can attend graduation? Currently there is no limit to the number of people that can log in and attend the virtual graduation ceremony.

2) How will you know if my student is going to participate in the graduation ceremony? In April the counseling team will send out a graduation survey. On the survey there will be questions pertaining to graduation and graduation attendance.

3) Are caps & gowns required? No, caps and gowns are not required this year to participate in the virtual graduation ceremony. However, we encourage students who did purchase a cap & gown to wear it in the virtual ceremony.

4) How do I order my cap and gown? Please go HERE for details. AZVA caps/gowns are navy blue and the tassel is silver. You can also order graduation announcements, class rings and more!

5) Will my cap and gown be mailed to my house or available for pick up at the graduation ceremony? Since students purchase the cap and gown directly through Josten's they will be mailed to the address you provide when purchasing the items.

6) What is the dress code? Because this is a special occasion, we encourage you to dress nicely. Here are some general guidelines for appropriate dress: Slacks or khakis, button-down shirts, tie (optional), dress or skirt/dress pants & blouse.

7) Is there going to be another in person graduation ceremony at a later date? Students who graduate in the class in 2020 will be invited to participate in the graduation ceremony in May 2021. We will include a special part of the ceremony to recognize them and allow them to walk across the stage.

8) What will the virtual graduation ceremony include? You can expect speeches from graduates, student performances, a graduation slide show, presentation of diplomas (reading the names from the Class of 2020) and special graduation speakers/performers.

9) Who do I contact if I am interested in performing at graduation? If you are interested in performing at graduation, please go HERE for more details.

10) Do AZVA students play any other role in the ceremony? Yes. The Valedictorian (Highest academic rank in graduating class) delivers a speech. The Salutatorian (Second highest academic rank in graduating class) will be invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. There are also auditions for a student to perform the National Anthem as well as perform other musical selections during the ceremony.

All speeches must be submitted to administration prior to graduation and may need revisions/editing for final approval.

11) When will my student receive their diploma? Students do not receive their diploma at the ceremony. Diploma’s are mailed after final grades are posted and counselor’s complete a final credit check. The diploma is mailed to the mailing address AZVA has on file with an approximate time frame of 4-6 weeks after the end of the semester.

12) Can I participate in the virtual graduation ceremony if I need to complete credit requirements in summer school. If a student needs to complete 1 class (.5 credit) in summer school, they can still participate in the May graduation ceremony. Please contact your counselor for clarification or questions.
