Alpha Phi Sigma which was founded in January 1942, has grown to over 400 chapters, and is the only accredited national criminal justice honor society for those studying criminal justice or a related field. The society recognizes the academic excellence of bachelor's and master's degree students of criminal justice programs.
We officially chartered the chapter, Kappa Kappa on October 22, 2008 to promote the highest standards of criminal justice practice and to recognize and promote the four goals of Alpha Phi Sigma: academic excellence, unity, leadership, and service. The Kappa Kappa chapter was welcomed as the 366th chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma. Kappa Kappa has earned the Gold Chapter Standard Award in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Student Life will email invitations to qualified students to join once in the Fall and Spring Semester.
Per our bylaws:
Undergraduate students shall be enrolled in American Public University System, have declared a major, minor or equivalent in the criminal justice or related field, have completed three full time semesters or its equivalent, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and rank in the top 25% of their class. A minimum of four courses of the above course work shall be in the criminal justice field.
1. APS provides national recognition for academic excellence in criminal justice (CJ) and related fields, an honor which can be noted on employment applications, vitae, and resumes.
2. On the local level, chapter membership facilitates leadership development and interaction with other students who have similar interests and service to the department and college/university.
3. Members receive a membership certificate, pin, and card, and through chapter mailings, copies of The Docket, the society's official publication. http://alphaphisigma.org/docket.html
4. The society provides awards, grants, and scholarships to its student members, faculty advisors, and chapters on an annual basis. Also provided are educational opportunities, graduate school preparation, speakers (national and local), a feeling of community, networking, and more.
5. Membership in APS meets one of the requirements for entrance at the "GS-7 level" in numerous professional and technical occupations in the U.S. government.
6. Membership is for life. The national registration fee submitted by students with their application is the only payment ever made to the national headquarters.
