The American Landscape Project, in coordination with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at California State University, Northridge is thrilled beyond measure to introduce the Susan Arreola California Postcard Collection. Currently, the collection stands at nearly 1,000 mostly vintage postcards. We are currently scanning, cataloging and curating the collection to share with the public.
Some of the postcards are well over 100 years old, and they include dozens of photographic and artistic rendering of important California cultural and natural landmarks.
Postcards such as these were critical in the economic development of California because they contributed heavily to the place-making boosterism of the 20th century.
