Hello! My name is Alyssa Aragon but I commonly go by Aly. I’m 19 years old and this is my second semester as a freshman at UNM. I am a member of the Combined BA/MD program, which is basically a pre med program. I am currently working on getting a BA in Psychology as well as a minor in HM/HV which stands for Human Values and Health Medicine. The reason I chose psychology because I am truly interested in how the mind works and I think it will benefit me in my future career as a doctor, and my HM/HV minor is part of the program I am in, which will also benefit me in my higher education and career. After finishing my undergraduate degree and completion of medical school I plan on becoming either a neonatologist or emergency pediatrician. As a doctor I also want to travel abroad to third world countries and treat kids and communities abroad. My desire to become a doctor roots way back to an event I do not even remember. When I was a baby, doctors discovered I had a large hole in my heart and I needed open heart surgery to save my life. The surgery was successful and all that remains now is a large scar extending down my chest. My mom happened to work in the hospital with my surgeon so as a little girl when I would go to work with her and I always got to see my surgeon who I always thought of as this amazing superhero who saved my life. As long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a doctor to help kids like me, and I love to travel, which is why I want to help kids who really need it in other places too. I'll have many years of education but I am excited for where it will take me and all the people I will be able to help.
Throughout the past semester in Technical and Professional Writing I have learned how to create professional documents though research, design, and networking skills. Each project required a variety of revisions which were specific to the goal of the project, but there were some common adjustments made. These include, enhancing details of design, increasing multimodality, and adjusting content in order to appeal to the audience. I would not have been able to create such strong revisions and grow in my writing and professional skills if I didn’t have the academic support from both my peers and my instructor. If I had more time to make further revisions to each project I would clean up all the details of the projects and enhance the rhetoric of each document so they could appeal to a larger audience. The overall experience in this course has given me professional writing skills that will be critical in my future as an employee, and I will be able to apply in many settings within my future profession as a doctor.
