Description
The Asian Liver Center at Stanford University is the first non-profit organization in the United States that addresses the high prevalence of hepatitis B and liver cancer in Asians and Asian Americans. Founded in 1996, the Asian Liver Center uses a four-pronged approach towards fighting hepatitis B: Collaboration, Advocacy, Research, and Education.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated interns who are passionate about research and data science to join our ongoing project at ALC. Our focus is on evaluating the hepatitis B testing, care, and treatment cascade in the United States using Medicaid claim data. Additionally, we aim to examine disparities in HBV care and treatment among different demographic groups and geographic regions. By analyzing the data, the study will identify factors associated with HBV care and treatment outcomes, providing valuable insights for improving healthcare delivery and reducing disparities in HBV management. This is an excellent opportunity for college students to enhance their data analytics profile.
Responsibilities:
Support preparing the application package and facilitate gaining access to the Medicaid claim database.
Conduct data cuts and transformations to extract relevant information for research inquiries.
Perform descriptive and correlation analyses, identify patterns and trends, and produce insightful reports and dashboards.
Create a comprehensive study report to present and discuss the obtained results.
Requirements:
Strong foundational understanding of descriptive statistics.
Experience in managing structured quantitative data and generating tables and data visualizations.
Proficiency in at least one data analytic tool (R, Python, Stata, SPSS).
Proficient in academic writing.
Strong analytical mindset, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus points:
Pursuing degrees in statistics, public health, data science, or related quantitative fields.
Familiarity with insurance claim data.
Time line: Academic year 2025-2026.
