Description
The Asian Liver Center at Stanford University is the first non-profit organization in the United States that addresses the high prevalence of hepatitis B and liver cancer in Asians and Asian Americans. Founded in 1996, the Asian Liver Center uses a four-pronged approach towards fighting hepatitis B through CARE: collaboration, advocacy, research, and education/outreach.
This internship provides excellent experience for careers in public health and community outreach. You will be part of our community outreach programs to promote awareness about hepatitis B and liver cancer among Asian and Pacific Islander Americans with a focus on the Vietnamese community in San Jose area. Students interested in medicine, behavioral science, public health, media, or psychology are encouraged to apply.
Duties
Develop project-related educational materials and brochures.
Implement on-site community outreach campaigns to raise awareness about hepatitis B and liver cancer among Vietnamese American in San Jose, California.
Leverage supports for the establishment of JoinJade team HBV in high schools in Vietnam.
Support social media efforts to promote #JoinJade, an international campaign to promote hepatitis B and liver cancer awareness.
Other Support Activities
Fulfill educational material requests from state and local health departments
Carry out other support activities as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have completed at least one full academic year of an undergraduate program, and will be someone who is self-motivated, loves interpersonal interaction, and has a knack for organization and getting the details right. Ideal candidates should also have a demonstrated track record in community outreach and passionate about health education. This position requires travelling to our community outreach center in San Jose, so must have access to reliable transportation.

Communication, health education and event planning experience
Public health research
Able to speak, read, and write in Vietnamese is a plus
