The Asian Liver Center at Stanford University is the first non-profit organization in the United States that addresses the high prevalence of hepatitis B and liver cancer in Asians and Asian Americans. Founded in 1996, the Asian Liver Center fights hepatitis B through CARE: Collaboration, Advocacy, Research, and Education/Outreach.
This internship provides excellent experience for careers in community health, program management/coordination/development, and advocacy.
The Community and Youth Outreach Intern will plan the 2024 Youth Leadership Conference at Stanford University. The Conference brings together 100 high school students from around the world to train them in leadership and motivate them to take action against the biggest health disparity faced by Asians and Pacific Islanders today, hepatitis B. You’ll also work closely with our Team HBV High School and Collegiate Advisory Board on local community outreach ideas and projects.
The ideal candidate should love interpersonal interaction, have an aptitude for organization, and be capable of multitasking.
Duties
Design agenda and program for the Youth Leadership Conference, which will be a 4 day conference (virtual or on-site is to be determined)
Propose list of, make contact with, and recruit keynote and other guest speakers
Propose and develop a Team Challenge, a collaborative project that can be developed by a team of 10 high school students in 2 days and presented on the 3rd day
Recruit and review applications for the High School candidates for the Youth Leadership Conference
Organize and coordinate key supporters and leads for the Youth Leadership Conference including the Assistant Team Leads and Team Leads
Facilitate meetings and engagement with Team HBV Advisory Board, chapters nationwide, interns, students, and volunteers in support of the conference
Develop project-related educational/marketing materials and brochures
Maintain accurate accounting records of income and expenditures
Any other task necessary for project promotion and other support activities
Qualifications
Event organizing experience is a plus
Must have completed at least one full academic year of an undergraduate program
Ability to organize and execute a conference using zoom and other technology
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Good judgment and interpersonal skills
Creative and extremely self-motivated
Sees the big picture as well as details necessary to make the vision a reality
Highly-organized
Passionate

Tech savvy
Communication, marketing, event planning, or health education experience
Past experience as a participant or a lead at the Youth Leadership Conference will be given priority
