ZnO

  • ZnO nanorod : 6.59 g (0.03 mol) of zinc acetate dihydrate (Zn(CH3COO)2H2O) and 12.0 g (0.3 mol) of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) are dissolved in 50 mL of distilled water, respectively. After that, the two aqueous solutions are mixed together under vigorous stirring in an ice bath to maintain the temperature of the mixture close to 0 ℃. The solution is further diluted by adding more distilled water to make the resulting solution to be 150 mL. Subsequently, the temperature is raised to ~ 90 ℃ and is maintained for about 1 h. The transparent solution became opaque above 75 ℃ suggesting the growth of ZnO nanocrystals. After the reaction, white powders are obtained after a vacuum filtration, which are subsequently washed with distilled water and methanol several times, and are dried at room temperature for 1 day.
  • ZnO nanosheet : 3.30 g (0.015 mol) of zinc acetate dihydrate and 6.00 g (0.15 mol) of sodium hydroxide are dissolved in 25 mL of distilled water, respectively. Then, the aqueous solutions are mixed together with a vigorous stirring at 0 ℃. Subsequently, 100 mL of sodium citrate solution (0.5, 1, and 2 M) is added into the mixture. Next, the temperature is raised to 90 ℃ and is maintained for about 1 h. The transparent solution becomes opaque at around 75 ℃ which reflects the growth of ZnO nanocrystals. After the reaction, the white powders are obtained by a vacuum filtration, washing with distilled water and methanol (several times), and drying at room temperature for 1 day.
