Below is an opportunity to see the salary you potentially hope to make to live in your preferred area and lifestyle in Texas. An individual amount is revealed in step 1 and a family amount in step 2.

a. Answer questions based on your goals immediately out of college or high school, if you are not planning on going to college

ii. View Total Expenses/Salary required to live the lifestyle you want. *** (add to your worksheet)

c. (back button to Total Expenses) Choose Family Plan Additional Costs (located at bottom left corner)

c. Choose 2 children for #3

How can I make that salary?

1. Select "Explore Occupations"

2. Begin exploring each of the occupations you see listed. You will be able to see salaries,; skills, knowledge, and abilities needed, employment outlook, job openings in Texas, etc.,


How do I get help choosing a specific career based on what I enjoy or am interested in?

AHS is now offering a comprehensive program call Naviance. It offers career planning and career assessment tools which will help you narrow down your career search.

a. User name = your first and last name, i.e. johnsmith (no spaces)

If already used, use your first name/last name/your birthdate, i.e. johnsmith14

If already used, use your first name/dot/last name, i.e. john.smith (no spaces)

5. Be sure to check the box next to “I have read and agree to the terms and conditions of use.”

6. Click Create new Account to complete the process.

7. Click Learn About Myself red tab across the top. Click Take an Assessment. Take the 3 assessments adding the Activation Code N5889447VQW each time. They may be taken in one sitting or at separate times. Each takes approximately 4-9 minutes. Read the instructions carefully. Each assessment is answered differently. To return to the next assessment, click on the Learn About Myself red tab at the top of the page.

8. After all 3 assessments are completed

a. Choose red tab Learn About Myself

b. View Assessment Results (If you click on the star, that info will be saved to your Favorites)

c. Choose green Occupations Suggested by Assessment Results

d. Choose the Filter Options important to you

e. List 5 Top Career Interests, Skills, and Work Values ***

f. For each, open the top career area.

g. View tabs along the side

h. Click the star next to the occupation to save it in your portfolio

9. Select Learn About Myself red tab at the top of the page

a. Select View Assessment Results

i. View and Print One-Page Summary Report. (add to your college folder)

ii. View Interests and Skills Composite Report

b. Consider Careers that interest you

i. View Occupations Suggested by Assessments

ii. Filter Occupations by

a. Education level

b. Cluster

c. Expected job growth

d. Median Annual Salary

10. Select Explore Occupations red tab at the top of the page.

a. View Occupations Suggested by Assessments. These occupations are directed towards your particular interests, skills, and work values that were revealed by your assessments. For those that interest you, click on the star beside each. This will save it to your Favorites.

i. Explore occupations by your interests, skills, and/or values

b. View Occupations by 16 National Career Clusters & Pathways for a list of careers in a certain area

c. View Occupations by Title Search for a specific career

d. View 5 careers that particularly interested you ***

How do i prepare for this occupation?

11. Select Plan for Education red tab at the top

a. Choose an Option After High School (also How much Education do I need?)

b. Select College Prep National Schools (found also in Find Schools)

i. Complete any filter item that applies to you and your desires, i.e. size, location, cost… Be as specific as possible because this will help narrow down your choices for the right college for you

ii. List 5 colleges that you would like to attend***

c. Select each chosen (starred) college name individually (click on one college at a time)

13. Select Learn About Financial Aid on left side of screen. Skim information focusing on scholarships. Applying for federal monies begins October 1. (Texas A&M will be at AHS explaining the FAFSA application and assisting in any way. Invite your parents/guardians for 5:30 evening meeting)

How do i plan for work?

How do i find a job?

16. Choose Find a Job red tab

a. Read Learn How to Find Job Openings (left side)

b. Search your Favorite Jobs (they are the ones you starred so far)

c. Review Research Employers View Search Favorite Jobs

d. Search National Jobs

i. Select a state

ii. Select Job Seeker Registration – Register if you’d like. This is a safe statewide organization. It is “live” and updated daily.

e. View all options for the state you selected

f. Choose Find your local Workforce Solutions Office. Enter your zip code. Click Job Seeker Services or Child Care Assistance. Note the location in Athens. Click All Services and review the services offered to you, your family, and your friends. This is a fabulous resource for you for summer work or full-time work.

g. Choose Manage My e-Portfolio. This is a new innovative requirement for many colleges/employers.

a. Expand each step and follow each section.

b. Preview your e-Portfolio

c. Publish your e-Portfolio, if desired.

d. You will be given a Personal e-Portfolio Web Address to share with whomever you choose

e. Complete each step.

17. Choose My Portfolio red tab.

d. Review Portfolio Summary

18. Read Directional Guidance reminding you that you may return to this portfolio and adjust or use the information as long as AISD purchases the program, even if you are out of high school.

19. Choose Career Planning Timeline (in green on right side). Check off all tasks you have completed regardless of the grade level.
