Space management is good concept in dealing with building ownership i.e. who own what and do we need a new building actually. It can be treated like a land ownership, which can be a sensitive issue to the owner. In looking into this, we can refer to IFMA Asset Life Cycle Model. For higher education, we refer to TEFMA (Tertiary Education Facilities Management Education) and Space Planning Guidelines by APPA (Australasian Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers).
Recently in Nov 2014, International Property Measurement Standards: Office Buildings has been launched.
The space management issue is not impacting the commercial alone or educational building. It also impacted the hospital.
Sample auditing report
We can refer to school audit in 2008 by New York City Department of Education. It highlights between capacity and utilization of classrooms in achieving efficiency usage (lowest efficiency at 75%).
