October 2019
Our guest speakers are Bryan & Carmen Orthner
Bryan and Carmen Orthner both grew up in Christian families. Bryan was raised in Northern Saskatchewan, where his parents were teachers in Wollaston Lake and La Ronge. He has been involved in Bible quizzing as a ministry for most of his adult life, and is passionate about the power of the Word of God. Carmen grew up in Regina, and joined First Baptist as a young adult, along with her parents, Len and Martha Pauls.
After eighteen years of married life in La Ronge, where Bryan was an IT professional and Carmen was a journalist and communications professional, the Orthners left Canada with their daughter Sara to serve in South Africa with SIM. After two years serving in the metro Johannesburg area, they returned to Canada in December 2018 to develop their financial partnership team so that they can continue their support ministry with SIM's Southern Africa Service Centre.
Bryan and Carmen will be sharing about their ministry in South Africa, with a particular emphasis on the ministry of encouragement as it relates to all of us as believers. They will also share about ways in which we can encourage and support missionaries, both while they are serving abroad and as they return to Canada.
