Topic: Budgeting
In preparation for the call, review section 5 (production goals) and section 6 (activities and operational plan) of your grant proposal.

For September you have two tasks to work on as a team:
Section 11. STAFFING PLAN (optional) - using the table provided, add all staff expected to be part of the project. Remember to include all people involved, even those with a very minimal part of time allocated. Feel free to adjust the table to suit your project and include other helpful information. You may already have something like this you can use.
Section 12. BUDGET OUTLINE - using the Excel spreadsheet provided (linked in your proposal document), list out your expected costs for the project in US Dollars. Add any additional columns or alternative sections for items not currently included. Remember, a budget outline like this needs to try and include ALL expected costs for a project (whether unique to the project or a % of a general ‘indirect’ organisational cost, if that is allowed by the funder) and be as clear as possible, answering any questions a funder might have.
Click here to find your group folder, within which there is a google document set up for your team (note: you must be signed into the google account you provided when registering for the training to access the folder and file). Please make sure this section is completed by Saturday 18 September.
As a team, review Sections 11 and 12 of your assigned peer team's grant proposal. Click here to find their google document. As you read it through, highlight:
3 things you like about what they have written,
3 areas where you think they could strengthen/improve what they have written,
any questions you have about what is written.
To do this in google docs, highlight the text and then click on the 'text bubble' to the right of the page to add your comment.
Make sure this is completed by Saturday 25 September.
Watch this summary video, outlining some different ways you can lay out your budget depending on the requirements of the funder or your specific situation. Please note this video is slightly longer than previous months, so do make sure you have set aside enough time to really benefit from what is shared.
Then, as a team, review the comments received from your assigned peer team and spend some time revising your proposal based on the suggestions and questions raised.
Finally, to consolidate your learning this month, take some time to discuss the following two questions as a team:
What are your 3 key learning points from this month?
What one thing are you going to do now to grow/establish your capacity in this area?
