Halloween

A lot of people have a favorite holiday right? Christmas🎄, Easter🐰,St.Patrick's day🍀 , and Valentine's day💘. One of my favorite holidays is HALLOWEEN👻🎃! Sugar highs, costumes, and trick-or-treaters are everywhere! People dragging home pounds of candy! Some people have personal favorites when it comes to candy and others like all of them. Sweet, sour, sugary, sticky and gooey, there are so many different kinds of candy and the flavors that come with it.

The favorite candy of Hazel and Amaya, from Mac 3 Birch, is Reese's pieces. Hazel also likes Werther's Original. Lucie and Gabrielle, also from Mac 3 Birch, like Kit-Kat. Simone and Symone like Dots, Skittles and Starbursts. Munisa, on the other hand, likes all of them.

Halloween is also a chance to be and pretend you are something you are not. It all takes imagination. You can be a witch, fairy, mermaid or people from your favorite book series.

Hazel and Munisa's favorite Halloween costumes that they saw was a little girl dressed in a blue ballerina outfit with cookies on it and her Dad was a cookie with a bite out of it.

Symone, Simone, Lucie, Gaby and Amaya's favorite costumes they saw were an inflatable dinosaur, a giant pineapple, a glittery jellyfish, a pink squid costume, Cleopatra, Harry Potter and a vampire.

Everybody has different things that they like about Halloween. Amaya, Munisa and Symone's favorite things about Halloween are the candy. Lucie and Simone's favorite thing about Halloween is dressing up. And Gaby and Hazel's favorite things are getting scared, trick-or-treating, putting up decorations, and watching Halloween specials on TV. To Simone, Amaya, and Munisa being with friends on Halloween is important. To Gaby and Lucie, it’s candy. For Symone it’s costumes and Hazel's is carving pumpkins.

But Halloween is also a chance for some people ( who don’t get to scared like me) to have sleepovers and stay up till midnight and play Bloody Mary. What is Bloody Mary? you may ask. Well, here’s the rules.

How to play Bloody Mary

1. The first step to playing Bloody Mary is to have a sleepover. Well you don’t really need to have a sleepover but that's when most people do it or you can do it alone (if you are going for a scarier time).
2. Then you need to stay up till midnight, on the dot. Some people think that's a little much but that's the only way that it will work.
3. To be able to see Bloody Mary you need to stand in front of a mirror. Some people are so scared that they see their own reflection in the mirror thinking it’s Bloody Mary. That’s why you need to turn off the lights, and don’t worry she can’t grab you from behind. She’s trapped in a mirror after all.
4. Then you need to chant ”Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary.” Some people have different ways of summoning Bloody Mary but this is the kind of Bloody Mary that I know about.
5. You wait, and wait, and wait for Bloody Mary to come. At this point some people chicken out because they are too scared, don’t worry I would probably chicken out too.
6. If she does come I would recommend running away.

On Halloween some people get booed. What does getting booed mean? you may ask. Well, I can tell you. Getting booed means you come home or hear a ring coming from the front door, and you go out and see a small bag holding a few goodies. You follow the instructions on the paper that you found in the bag:

• Print 2 more copies of this paper and hang this one on your front door reading “We’ve been booed.”
• Buy some goodies and put them in a bag with the paper.
• Secretly go to someone's house that does not have the “We’ve been booed" sign on their door. Ring their bell (optional) and then leave quickly ! It's a surprise.

Halloween comes once a year so people try to make it as memorable as possible! So that you can know more about Halloween and its origins here are some fun facts:

• Halloween is actually on October 1st.
• Halloween was first celebrated in Ireland.
• Halloween is more Irish than St.Patrick's day.
• Immigrants took the tradition to America in the 21st century.
• The first Jack-o-lanterns were made of turnips
• The word “witch”comes from the Old English wicce, meaning “wise woman”
• We wear costumes on Halloween because people thought ghosts would come and people thought they would encounter ghosts. To avoid being recognized people would wear masks after dark so the ghosts would mistake them for their fellow spirits.
