Did you know that in Lake Bluff people speak over 25 different languages? There are currently 4 people in the school who speak Chinese, including me. Some of you might wonder, how do we do it? How do we understand and write this language?
Well, that’s what I think when I’m in Spanish class, except I’m thinking about Spanish, not Chinese. Like, is Spanish like English to Hispanic people or Spanish speakers?
Anyways, at my house, we do things very simple. I speak English to my brother, Orion, and my sister, Isis. And Chinese? I speak Chinese with my mom and dad.
Some days, I practice Chinese. I also speak Chinese with my friend, Leo. He’s leaving in the middle of the year. It’s pretty fun to talk to each other in Chinese, since people are confused as to what we’re saying.
Also, during some times of the day after school, I write rows of Chinese words, such as words or titles from books. The thing is, no teacher assigns these, my dad does. He wants my Chinese to improve. After a week or so of writing, I might take a mini-test, or move on to another row.
That’s all I have to really say. And I have a question. Why is it important to learn a different language?
Well, it’s important to learn a different language, and more than 2, so then if you want to be a translator, or you have the opportunity to translate to somebody in need, then you can do it easily after months or years of studying. It is important to translate so you can help, which is the most important.
