Anyone out there who likes singing, acting, or dancing, this is your time to shine! No, I mean literally. Because when you have on that shirt that is the most sparkly thing you've ever seen, with all the spotlights on you in a very, very dark room, you shine as bright as a diamond.
Shorewood Drama Jr has been around for almost ten years, and we’ve done multiple musicals such as Annie, Seussical, Charlie Brown, and Peter Pan! In the school year, Ms. VanLoon writes a script, and there are a lot of parts sometimes, so if you have a smaller role, you get a bunch. But each role is just as important, because all the smaller roles build up the story more.
But if you don't want to act, you can also do tech, where you make props or costumes, or move scenery around. But I'd still give acting a try unless your heart is set on tech.
Your directors would be Ms. VanLoon and Ms. Hill. They are super awesome, and nice, but that doesn't mean you can't work hard!
You have to be in 4th grade or older to start drama.
You usually get about 2 months from the first rehearsal to the actual show to memorize lines, dances and blocking. That seems like a lot, but if you want to put on a good show, don't goof around during rehearsal. It doesn't hurt to practice your lines even if you have them memorized, and if you have a dance, practice it with other people who do the dance, so that you can remember it and perfect it.
After the show is done, the cast and crew all have a cast party, where you can eat pizza, cookies, cupcakes, juice, and other stuff!
Drama takes place at Lake Bluff from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays in the school year, and at the high school from 1 to 4 on Monday through Thursday in the summer.
I hope that you found this information useful! If you think this sounds like something you would enjoy, ask your parents to sign you up for Shorewood Drama Jr. And if you can't, remember to buy tickets!
