Course Description
Students are offered a 40-week introduction to the study of French, German, Latin or Spanish. At this level, special emphasis is placed on developing communicative proficiency in understanding and speaking the World Language. In this course, students will be introduced to the culture and civilization of the respective countries where the target language is spoken. Grade 7 classes meet two out of three days on the A/B/C day rotation.
World Languages Level 1

Course Description
Students are offered a continuation of the introductory level course that was begun in Grade 7 in their chosen language. At this level, specific emphasis is placed on further development of communicative proficiency in understanding and speaking the world language. The proficiency gained in reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in Grade 7 is broadened and enriched. Students continue their study of the culture and civilization of the respective countries where the target language is spoken. Grade 8 classes meet two out of three days on the A/B/C day rotation.
Students must pass the Checkpoint A Examination at the end of World Languages Level 1 in order to earn the minimum one (1) unit of World Languages credit required for high school graduation.
Spanish 8

Students are offered a 40-week introduction to the study of Spanish. In this course, special emphasis is placed on developing communicative proficiency in understanding and speaking Spanish. In this course, students will be introduced to the culture and civilization of the respective countries where the target language is spoken. Spanish 8 classes meet two out of three days on the A/B/C day rotation.
Students must pass the Checkpoint A Examination at the end of Spanish 8 in order to earn the minimum one (1) unit of World Languages credit required for high school graduation.
*This course is offered to students who are new to the district or who are unable to begin language study in 7th grade due to extenuating circumstances.
