Solo and Ensemble Contest
Chamber Music includes soloist and small ensembles that perform at the ISSMA Solo/Ensemble Contest, and at some civic events and concerts. Students who participate in Chamber Music learn music written for soloists and smaller groups, typically from the Baroque or Classical era. Participation in these groups is strongly encouraged, as it provides students with increased opportunities to learn more literature and become better musicians through the performance of chamber music. Those who perform at contest are critically evaluated and receive written comments from a judge who specializes in the area of performances being judged. Performing chamber music is one of the most effective ways to develop advanced skills as a musician. Students who plan to continue the study of music at the college level should learn as much chamber music as possible during high school.
