Top Tips
These are real proper tips from students from last year. We have edited out the duplication but lots of that relates to making the most of support services, your personal and module tutors, time management and making connections with other students.
Don’t rush through assignments, timetable study sessions and take your time with them.
Don’t stress yourself. Enjoy the journey!
Booking with ELTC really helped me to improve my academic skills. Do not hesitate seeking help from any other services like 301 and MASH as well
Keep on track with all of your studies as this conveyor belt of work will trundle on without you if you let it.
Ask your question! You are not the only one wanting to know the answer - but you might be the only one to ask. This is YOUR degree - your learning - your CHANCE, ask your questions!! Well done for getting here - and good luck, you got this!
Just trust the process, speak to people, seek any additional support and everything will be ok.
Don’t leave things until the last minute and if you need help ask for it. They will try to help as much as possible. Have a plan to manage your time, this really helps when work gets overwhelming
This is the best decision you have made! Throw yourself in, don't doubt yourself, at every step you will improve! Be vocal, reach out to others: Friends, tutors, family; if you are struggling the best thing can sometimes be just to talk it through with someone.
Enjoy it.
Join in with other students. Talk to your tutors. Consider a mentor.
You have made the right decision and you should be here! Don’t doubt it, even when things get tough!
ASK FOR HELP! The support is amazing, the tutors just want to help. DDSS are so kind. Dan and Donna are amazing. Don’t give up. The best thing you will ever do.
Take advantage of every bit of support offered and there is lots! You’re already paying for it, so use it. It is really helpful.
Keep up with classes and prep work before classes. Actual physical attendance is really important as well
It goes a lot quicker than you think, make the most of it.
Meet with your personal tutor as often as you need to and be honest about where you need help. Get a learning support plan (LSP) in place asap (get any diagnoses for mental health/learning difficulties).
Try and master the referencing and ALCS skills as soon as possible.
Make friends and connections - get involved and cherish the experience.
Get on board asap but take time to get used to it.
Actively seek out support from peers; be vulnerable and honest about your shortcomings. Friends and peers will help you; everyone is in the same boat!
Read and refer to the student handbook and the DLL weekly bulletin
Don’t stress, you’ll be alreyt.
