Peer Learning (301 Academic Skills Centre)

The 301 Academic Skills Centre has been supporting peer-learning schemes at the University of Sheffield since 2014.

We currently run 12 schemes across five faculties, working collaboratively with departments to offer regular peer-learning sessions to over 1,000 students.

Our schemes are based on the supplemental instruction (SI) model, where peer learning supports lectures and seminars, rather than replacing them.

SI is an established peer-learning model. It's used extensively in the UK and internationally to support student transition, retention and educational attainment.

Our peer-learning supervisors are trained and accredited by the European Supplemental Instruction-Peer Assisted Study Sessions (SI-PASS) centre.
