Technology

Technology at Year 8 provides learners with the opportunity to design, test and develop their own technological outcomes in a range of contexts, including digital technologies, materials technology, and food technology. These contexts are combined to make a valuable, exciting and in-depth learning experience. 

Across the contexts, learners will develop transferable skills, such as research, problem solving, technical skills, and computational thinking. This module leads into Year 9 Technology where technological and design knowledge is developed to a higher level.

Course focus:

• develop programming skills through robotics

• learn how computers store, represent and manipulate data

• plan, design and build robots to meet the competition brief

• develop sketching and digital design skills

• cyber-safety and digital citizenship

• creating digital graphics

• developing techniques in hand-stitching 

• developing skills in concept drawing and construction

• safe practices in a kitchen environment

• practical food preparation skills
