Integrated Studies and Literacy

Integrated Studies is a combination of English and Social Studies at Curriculum Level Four. The curriculum strands of these two subjects are covered over two years in the junior school through a range of contexts.

Course Focus

Within the context of New Zealand history, giving consideration to bi-cultural heritage in Aotearoa, the course explores:

• culture, heritage and identity, and the history of St Hilda's

• the causes of conflict and the effect that it has on individuals and groups 

• the development of entrepreneurial skills and business knowledge

• the impact of innovation and exploration on our way of life

• the study of influential change-makers that have shaped history

• decisions and actions that impact our environment

• leadership and their consequences

Within these contexts, learners will learn the English and Social Science skills required to examine short texts, complete a novel study, write both creative and formal pieces, research information and create visual and oral presentations.
