Clubs and teams are an important part of the AFJROTC and high school experience. They are an excellent tool for learning self-discipline, leadership, cooperation, and self-confidence.
The Academic Bowl Team competes against other AFJROTC teams across the U.S. The team members must answer questions similar to those found on the College Board exams under time constraints. Questions include knowledge from areas such as current events, science, math, grammar AFJROTC knowledge, and more. The third and final round is the national round, where cadets travel to Washington D.C. to compete.
The Awareness Presentation Team (APT) is a public speaking team. The team is open to all cadets who wish to develop presentation and speaking skills. The APT makes presentations at local middle and elementary schools on topics such as historical events/holidays, social issues, education, and positive behavior. The APT members serve as role models for the students at the schools they visit.
The purpose of Cyber Patriot is to learn about computer network defense. Our unit has established a partnership with local cyber expert mentors. The Cyber Patriot team competes online against other high school teams all across the nation. If the team advances to the final level, they are rewarded with a trip to the national competition.
In Drone Team, cadets learn to fly drones on a Mavic drone: a state-of-the-art, high-tech piece of equipment! Cadets will race and navigate through obstacle courses and have to opportunity to take pictures at events using the drone.
FL-035's Honor Guard is an extracurricular composed of three teams: Color Guard, Drill Team, and Sabre Team. Our honor guard performs at events like Honor Flights, Flag Folding, Athletic Events, Parades, and other associated activities, both on campus and throughout the community.
Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS) is an honor society exclusively for AFJROTC cadets regardless of year, experience, or rank. Cadet members must be active in the corps, school, and community. A primary purpose of the society is to improve fellow students' grade point averages through peer tutoring. The Society also contributes to helping reach our Corps Goal of peer tutoring hours.
The Marksmanship Team procedures and competitions are governed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Each shooter will develop safe weapon handling knowledge and abilities. He or she will also become skilled in the three-position course of fire. The team shoots precision air rifles at 10-bull targets over a distance of ten meters. This team competes locally against other JROTC units in the county, as well as in sanctioned tournaments and national “postal matches”.
The Raider Team is an athletic extracurricular that focuses on teamwork and strength to accomplish goals. Raider Team activities include Rope Bridge, a team 5k Run, Cross Country Rescue (CCR), Tire Flips, and "Sprint Drag Carry".
The Rocketry Team is an activity for cadets who enjoy building and launching rockets. Members build rockets and perform various functions during rocket launches. Upon successful completion of three launches and recoveries and demonstration of required knowledge and skills, the cadet is awarded a Rocketry Badge.
The Spirit Squad amps up spirits at athletic events, runs Satellite flags, motivates the student section to cheer, and promotes JROTC by giving out merchandise. Our Spirit Team collaborates with the Marching Band and Cheerleaders at home games. The Spirit Squad exemplifies excitement, school spirit, and motivation.
