Santa Gertrudis

Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Veronica Alfaro - valfaro@sgisd.net

Dear Santa Gertrudis Students and Parents,

I pray that all is well with you and your families during this time of COVID-19. Daily, I review my calendar only to see events that cannot take place such as baseball and softball games, track events, band, tennis, cheerleading try-outs, and PROM!! I cannot imagine the feelings that you as students and parents are having. Seniors know that your district administration has every intent of having a graduation ceremony.

Staff are working hard to be able to provide your child with instruction. Although many of us find ourselves learning new things daily to be able to do so. From packets to Google Classroom, please know that we understand that this is not possible without your support. Communication is of upmost importance. Teachers have scheduled office hours, but will be reviewing their emails multiple times during the day. Staff continue to use apps like Remind, and ClassDojo for communication with you and your child.

In transitioning to this new site, our goal is to provide all information needed to overcome our present status. I ask everyone to please follow the recommendations from the CDC:

  • Don’t shake hands

  • Wash your hands regularly

  • Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded placed and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)

  • If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups

  • For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Students who have traveled should plan to stay home for two weeks after arriving home. Please contact your campus to let them know, and this will be considered an excused absence.

  • If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice .

  • Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold.

  • Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care

In addition to instruction, SGISD will work how to continue to offer lunch at both Santa Rosa campus and King Ranch. We thank you for you patience and understanding as we transition to E-Learning. We truly look forward to educating your child FACE-TO-FACE instead of through a virtual classroom.

Sincerely,

Dr. Veronica Alfaro
