This means all in-person classes and activities are canceled. Additionally, all school buildings, common areas, athletic areas, playgrounds, and offices are closed except for limited essential personnel as identified by principals or supervisors. Meal service and online/at-home instruction will continue during the suspension.

  • What is the district doing to help prevent the spread of coronavirus at schools?
    Closure:
On March 16, 2020, Santa Gertrudis schools and offices suspended normal operations. This will help stop the spread of coronavirus. Additionally, SGISD continues to monitor information and carefully follow all guidelines and directives from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC), Texas Department of State and Health Services (TDSHS), and the local Kleberg County Health Department regarding the novel coronavirus.
Cleaning: The district regularly cleans all campuses with a focus on disinfecting surfaces that are frequently touched. The district will also continue to disinfect school buses once service resumes using special device for frequently touched surfaces; this device will arrive in April.
Travel: The district has suspended all student and staff school business travel.
Communication: The district believes communication and transparency during this event is critical. The district's coronavirus homepage, particularly the "COVID-19" section, contains the most up-to-date specific information from SGISD. The page also includes the most up-to-date general guidance from health authorities.

  • My child is immunocompromised or has medical risk factors, and I am concerned about exposure.
The CDC has indicated that individuals with medical conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes are at a higher risk for COVID 19. Although we currently have no cases of community transmission and 2 cases of travel related of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the area, we recommend you call your child's primary care provider now to secure guidance for your child based on his/her individual need.

  • If my child or someone in my family gets sick what should we do?
The CDC has guidance for individuals who are sick and concerned they may have the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Please stay home if you are sick except to get medical care as needed. Any ill individuals should separate themselves from other people and animals. Symptoms of novel coronavirus are fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Call ahead before visiting your doctor, and consider telehealth/teladoc options if at all possible. Many insurance companies offer teladoc options and we encourage families and staff to utilize that service to decrease transmission to others.
