ASHER SCHOOL

Letter from the Director

Renae Gowen, Director

Welcome to Asher!

As we prepare to celebrate 50 years of Adult, Alternative, and Community Education in the City of Southgate, I wanted to take time to highlight the amazing opportunities that Asher offers.

Adults

You are never too old to receive a high school diploma; please remember that!  At any time, you can work through our High School Completion program or our GED prep program to earn a Southgate Community School diploma or a GED Certificate.  We have an enormous graduation ceremony every June, and all graduates, regardless of age, are invited to participate!

And if you or someone you know is learning English as a Second Language, we can provide high-quality support through our English Language Learner program.  We have a tremendous staff, and we have open enrollment all year long!

Young Adults

We are the only in-person alternative high school program in the Downriver area. We serve all students aged 15-21.  Our in-person program runs Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:30am to 3:00pm; we are virtual on Fridays. (We also offer a fully virtual path through Atlas Online Learning). Using the schedule that fits best, students find their path to graduation on either an accelerated 18-credit path or a traditional 22-credit diploma track. Our graduation ceremony in the Titan Stadium is filled with students who took the second chance to finish their education.

Community Education

This year, we expanded our Community Education programming to offer youth camps, swim classes, and enrichment classes. There is something for everyone!

We are all vested in our commitment to offer the best community education center for all of Downriver.
