Can I join ROTC if I don't attend SFHS? Yes you can. Cadets can be a part of ROTC from all across Santa Fe even if  they do not attend the high school.

Do I have to join a competitive team? No competitive teams are not a requirement. Just like all other sports it is your choice to join or not but we would love to have you.

Does it cost anything? Joining the program is free for all. There are certain optional social events that have a small fee (Halloween Party, Christman party, etc.) and  ROTC merchandise that is available for purchase.

Does ROTC count as a PE credit? In your first year ROTC does count as a PE credit. In the subsequent years after earning the credit ROTC counts as an elective.

Can I do other extracurriculars alongside ROTC? Yes you may join any other extracurriculars or sports you would like to. ROTC is a class like any other and your free time is yours to do what you wish.

I have to join the military after ROTC Not everyone joins the military. In fact most people don't. ROTC is about citizenship development not military recruitment.

All we do is exercise In ROTC we do participate in group exercise sessions, but we only do it once per week for an average of 20 minutes.

It's all yelling all the time ROTC is not like bootcamp. Class leaders do not yell and scream all day. Most of ROTC is class work same as all your other classes.

I have to wear a uniform all the time Uniform day is once a week. Some weeks are NSUs (khaki shirt and black pants) and other weeks are modified uniform (unit shirt and jeans).

ROTC is all work and no play ROTC has more fun events than non. We offer events like Unit Social Parties, the California Trip, the Military Ball, and many more.
