The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program is a Citizenship Development Program that works to instill in cadets the value of citizenship, patriotism, service to school, community and to each other. We are a constant work in progress to achieve more, do more, learn more and experience more!
The Santa Fe HS NJROTC is a very competitive unit with SIX New Mexico JROTC State Championship Titles (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2025) in Drill, Color Guard, Physical Fitness and Marksmanship. With exception of the pandemic years, we have qualified for Marksmanship Navy Service Championships every year and in 2025, one cadet qualified for All Service Championships; Cadet Jacqueline Esparza placed 10th in the country and 2nd in the Navy.
Enrollment in NJROTC does not obligate a cadet for any type of military service.
NJROTC offers a variety of social events such as the Halloween Party, Thanksgiving Potluck, Holiday Party, Games Nights and the Annual Military Ball. This year we also hope to travel to California over spring break.
Possibility of field trips to colleges, Air Force Academy/Olympic Training Center, Fire Department, Police Department, New Mexico National Guard, etc.
Community Service with Wreaths Across America, Operation Christmas Child, Food Bank, Santa Fe Fiesta Parades, City Veterans Day ceremonies, Keep Santa Fe Beautiful and much more
NJROTC is an Elective Credit that can also count for a PE credit or a Career Cluster credit.
Weekly Naval Science Curriculum includes Classroom Lessons, Physical Fitness, Team Building, STEM Activities, Team Sports, Military Uniform Inspection, and Military Drill,
There is no cost/fee to enroll in NJROTC; any required uniform items will be issued to cadets

Increase Unit Enrollment (make NJROTC the place to be)- We hope to achieve this by becoming more intentional with our presence in the school and our community. This includes attending Open Houses, showcases, performing at sports halftimes, NJROTC night at school events/sports games (demonstrating school spirit and solidarity), quarterly unit newsletters, recruit using informative presentation especially with freshman seminar classes, encouraging all cadets to actively promote the program at every opportunity, and our "You’ve Been Ducked!” campaign (giving out ducks to SFHS teachers to show appreciation).
Develop a Relationship with the Middle Schools- Our plan to achieve this includes scheduling meetings with the Principals in October to discuss presentations, demonstrations, joint NJROTC/Middle School events, attending career fairs, and providing information to middle school parents regarding the benefits of the program.
Develop Well-Rounded Cadets- To do this we will assist cadets in pursuing promotion, mentor them in whatever leadership position they currently hold or aim to hold, ensure that cadets are aware of all opportunities available to them (field trips, social activities, etc.) and provide opportunities to assist in the planning and execution of those events, thus fostering a feeling of pride and ownership in the unit. Alongside this we would like to focus on providing realistic feedback and consistent meaningful recognition.
Increase Our Involvement in the Community- We aim to reach this goal through contacting new community organizations that we do not participate with regularly by monitoring the Santa Fe Community Board and the Santa Fe Public Schools district website. JROTC prides itself on giving back to the community and we hope to do our part!
