The LAS Links Placement Test is a standardized English language proficiency screening tool used by Seymour Public Schools to determine whether a newly enrolled student qualifies for English Language (EL) / Multilingual Learner (ML) support.
Who is Assessed
Students in Grades K–12 who indicate a language other than English on the Home Language Survey (HLS) are required to take the LAS Links Placement Test within 30 days of enrollment at the beginning of the year or 2 weeks when enrolled during the school year.
What the Test Measures
The LAS Links Placement Test evaluates a student's English proficiency across four key language domains:
Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing
The assessment provides a comprehensive overview of the student’s ability to communicate and comprehend academic English in a school setting.
Purpose
Identify whether a student meets the criteria to be classified as an English Learner (EL) / Multilingual Learner (ML)
Determine the student’s English proficiency level (Not Proficient, Approaching Proficient, or Proficient).
Guide appropriate placement in EL/ML support services
Identification Criteria
To be identified as an EL/ML, the student must score Not Proficient or Approaching Proficient on the LAS Links Placement Test. Students who score Proficient do not qualify for EL/ML services.
Parent Notification
Parents/guardians are notified in writing of the test results and the student's EL/ML eligibility status. If eligible, the notification includes:
A description of the EL/ML program or services available
