Assessment plays a critical role in supporting the academic and language development of English Learners (ELs) / Multilingual Learners (MLs). Seymour Public Schools follows state and federal guidelines to ensure that all students are assessed fairly, accurately, and with cultural and linguistic responsiveness.
This section provides an overview of the different types of English language proficiency assessments used throughout a student’s EL/ML journey, from initial identification to ongoing progress monitoring and eventual exit from services. These assessments help us determine eligibility for EL/ML support, track students’ growth in the English language, and ensure instruction is tailored to meet their individual needs.
We are committed to using valid, research-based assessment tools and providing necessary accommodations to ensure equitable access for all EL/ML students, including those with disabilities.
