Each year, all identified English Learners (ELs) / Multilingual Learners (MLs) in grades K–12 are required to participate in the statewide English language proficiency assessment, known as LAS Links.
This standardized assessment is designed to measure a student's proficiency in the four domains of English language development:
Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing
The results of the LAS Links assessment help the district:
Monitor individual student progress in acquiring English,
Make data-informed instructional decisions,
Determine continued eligibility for EL/ML services or readiness for exit, and
Comply with state and federal accountability requirements under the Connecticut English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Parents/guardians will receive an annual score report that summarizes their child’s performance and overall English proficiency level.
