Early identification leads to prevention through early intervention.
Beginning January 2025, Seymour Community Schools is proud to offer universal screening for social/emotional behaviors in grades 5, 8 and 10 through the Fastbridge mySAEBRS screening tool. mySAEBRS (my Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief, norm-referenced tool for screening all students to identify those who are may be at risk for social-emotional behavior challenges and gives a snapshot of students' social-emotional functioning and wellbeing. mySAEBRS screening assesses:
Social Behavior (7 items): Students’ ability to understand social norms, empathize, and understand the perspectives of others.
Academic Behavior (6 items): Skills necessary for students to be prepared for, participate in, and benefit from academic instruction.
Emotional Behavior (7 items): Students’ ability to regulate emotions, adapt to change, and respond to stressful/challenging events.
The earlier we know of potential risks, the sooner we can add layers of support. Early support interventions may include:
small group and/or individual academic interventions
short term, solutions-focused small group and/or individual school counseling
check in check out
check & connect/mentorship
school based mental health counseling
collaboration with community agencies/mental health providers
small group and/or individual counseling with community based providers
day treatment with community based providers
intensive outpatient treatment with community based providers
Early interventions create conditions for better long-term social, emotional, academic, and career outcomes for all students.
